How would the closure of the school affect the village of Culham?
It would be totally devastating to the whole community, this school is the backbone of village life in culham and its closure would mean the end of any social cohesion in the village. What are the parents with no transport expected to do? Hoe should their children find a new school when transport links are both un reliable and not practical. Its a total disgrace that the LA lead this school onto the rocks with waving lanterns only to pass the buck to parents when the inevitable happened. I am outraged by the whole idea of beauracrats crashing through a small, close knit community like culham and tearing the soul out of it.
This school is a vital part of village life. Without it there would be fewer families coming to live in Culham. It has delivered a great education to hundreds of children over the years, and will be able to continue to do that with all the commitment and energy the school action group and the invigorated governing body are putting into it! The Church leases the building free of charge to the school - so it is not as expensive a school as some people may think. If it closes, the church will have to sell the building to use the money for other educational purposes - we will lose the only community building apart from the church. The school enables children to become valuable members of their community - they will care about the village & their environment much more if they are a part of it.
It would be sacrilege to close a small institution that has been at the heart of the community for 160 years. By all accounts, the teaching standards are outstanding producing generation after generation of well educated and socially aware children. I know of a number of young families (including my own) that were attracted to Culham because of the school. So families won't move here without it and there would go the community spirit of this lovely village.
We have just a few weeks to find a suitable head teacher for this valuable school. Tell everyone you know that there is an advertisement for a head out now - this is really the last hurdle and we need as many candidates as possible!

No shop, no pub, no gas, rubbish broadband speeds...and now the school/community centre is in the firing line.
